Why won’t he call me his girlfriend? It’s a question you wish you knew the answer to. You completely view him as your boyfriend but he just doesn’t seem to see you in that same light. When he introduces you to others he calls you a “friend” or “the girl he’s dating.” It stings not to be acknowledged as someone more important than that. You wish you knew why he does this and if there’s a way to make him take the relationship more seriously. You need to really understand why he’s acting this way. Once you do, you’ll be able to move the relationship into a more serious direction so you can feel more fulfilled.
If you two have been dating for awhile and it’s become exclusive, you are his girlfriend. The fact that he won’t acknowledge you as such is more of a reflection on him than it is on you. Some men simply don’t like labels and they don’t find the term “girlfriend” to be frivolous or silly. You can typically tell if that’s indeed how a man feels by the fact that he’ll introduce you as his “partner.” Obviously that’s a step up from just being considered a friend or a casual date.
Some men believe that if they agree that you are indeed the girlfriend that it means the relationship will suddenly take a more serious turn. They don’t seem to grasp the concept that you two are already living out the role of boyfriend or girlfriend. Saying it verbally takes on a whole new meaning for a man like this and he’ll shy away from doing so at every chance he gets. If your guy won’t call you his girlfriend and he starts sweating profusely at the mere mention of the word “commitment”, he’s not even close to being ready to be called your boyfriend. He wants to view you two as a guy and gal who date each other once in a while. That obviously isn’t what you want.
Insisting that a man call you his girlfriend isn’t going to help. By pushing him into a corner on this issue you’ll essentially be pushing him away. Unless he freely decides that he wants to view you and consider you his girlfriend, there’s no benefit in talking endlessly about it. You’ll just annoy him and you’ll become increasingly frustrated at his failure to even commit to using the word. You don’t want to get yourself into this position because it really could damage the entire relationship beyond repair.
You don’t have to live in a relationship in which you continually feel ignored and neglected. You have the power to have the love you want with your man.
