You’re crazy about your boyfriend. You two have been together for awhile and you’ve been dating exclusively. You feel that it’s time to take things to the next level but he doesn’t want you to move in. It hurts. You want nothing more than to spend as much time with him as possible, but he doesn’t seem to be on that wavelength at all. Now you find yourself second guessing the entire relationship and where it’s headed. It’s natural that you’d begin to wonder what direction things are moving if he’s hesitant about living together. If you strongly feel that it’s the necessary step you two need to take, you can make it happen. Getting him to want you to move in isn’t nearly as challenging as you may think.
Before you can even think about packing up your stuff you have to figure out why he doesn’t want you to move in. There are a few common reasons why men shy away from this new level of commitment. One is that he really enjoys having his own space. You can typically tell if this is what is holding him back if you find that everything has its place and he doesn’t enjoy disruption at all. To him the idea of you moving in signifies a loss of control over his own environment. To remedy this you have to show him that you understand his boundaries. When you do stay over, ensure that you keep your things in order. If you demonstrate to him that you can exist in his space without completely overwhelming it, he’ll be much more willing to open up to the idea of you moving in.
There’s an old saying about having your cake and eating it too. The premise of that applies in this case. In many instances, a man won’t want his girlfriend to move in because he doesn’t see a reason to change anything. To him, everything is just as it should be. You two share time and intimacy and at the end of the night, he still has his own place to go to. Life is perfect to him because he knows you’re not going to change a thing because you love him so much.
That’s the very reason why you may need to shift things a bit. If your guy just isn’t willing to let you move in and he doesn’t have a reason to back it up, it’s time for you to mix things up a bit. Stop being so available to him. Right now, you’re giving him everything he wants and you’re not getting what you want. That’s why pulling back just a bit works. If you’re less available and accessible to your guy, he’s going to realize that you still do have your own life that doesn’t involve him. In his mind that wouldn’t be the case if you two lived together.
If you truly feel that his hesitation to live together isn’t grounded in any real reason, make yourself scarce for a few weeks. You’ll notice a change in his attitude because the idea of you moving in will suddenly seem very appealing to him.
You don’t have to live in a relationship in which your needs aren’t being met. You have the power to have the love you want with your man.
